Hey everybody! I'm in this big time coincidence zone lately. Totally blog-worthy stuff here. I love a good coincidence, and they happen all the time! It's about time I started keeping a record of them. I'm going to document all kinds of coincidences and synchronistic happenings, from small & petty to huge & cosmic. Here we go:
#1 Tasman. I woke up and did the New York Times crossword yesterday. One of the clues was "Explorer Abel who discovered New Zealand". I had no idea, so I cheated. I looked it up online and found that Abel Tasman was the dude who discovered New Zealand. I liked that word, "Tasman". Later I went to an old friend's house. I used their bathroom. They had one of those shower curtains with a map of the world on it. I sat down to pee and looked at the shower curtain. The first thing my eyes landed on was the Tasman Sea! It was then that I truly learned the location of New Zealand (of the Southeastern Coast of Australia), that it's an island, and that Tasmania is another, smaller island located just to the left, er...West of New Zealand. I will remember it forever!
#2 The night before the Tasman coincidence, I watched a movie called "The Piano". It's one of my favorite movies despite the fact that the love interest is kind of a rapey dude. I can't excuse his rapiness, but the cinematography is beautiful! While I was doing the crossword I decided to listen to some of Eric Satie's piano compositions. It was relaxing and morning-y. Later I was invited to play a show with some friends. The opening act was a guy doing acrobatic stuff with a suspended upright piano. It hung from the ceiling and he was doing crazy stuff with it like spinning it around violently, kicking the strings and hammering the keys with his feet. It was scary and impressive. This piano thing isn't a mind-blowing coincidence, but pianos are definitely a theme for me lately. I am moving into an apartment that has a piano in it, and I am going to take piano lessons from my dad this Fall. The thing that gets me though, is that "The Piano" was filmed in New Zealand.
